Mike Rizzo , Bay ridge born filmmaker and Staten Island filmmaker Geoff Celis had met at the Coney Island Film Festival. Geoff reached out to Mike to see how the two can bring their talented skills together. What more perfect forum of open collaboration the Open Film Night. With the help of artist Doc Rocket and Open Film Night founder James Sorrenti, the four decided to tap into Staten Island’s talented pool of actors and artists to create a spectacle out of a simple film screening.
The inspiration for the video and event came from watching Rocky IV. Everyone related to that hardworking montage as Rocky trained to beat Drago, why not liken such a great training sequence to filmmakers. So the filmmakers decided to contact Sal Vulcano, Arthur Vallario, comedian Tim Duffy, and writer Meredith Sladek to help fill out this silly press conference. And so they released this promo video for the Open FIlm Night Championships.
